6mm oak wear layer Unfinished oak engineered flooring

When choosing and comparing engineered oak flooring, always make sure that the wear layer of oak is sufficiently thick to cope with the amount of wear and tear your floor will receive. Some companies supply engineered products with an oak wear layer as thin as 2mm, which will soon need to be replaced. The minimum thickness of oak wear layer on our engineered oak is 4mm, thus providing excellent durability. Our 21mm engineered oak has a full 6mm oak wear layer, so provides virtually as much durability as an 18mm thick solid oak but with all the stability advantages engineered oak provides.

Our engineered oak flooring is made by pressure bonding this oak layer to a plywood base or underside, so it looks exactly like solid oak when installed, but due to the layer of plywood has increased stability and can be designed and produced in wider sizes whilst minimising the risk of dimensional movement. Due to this extra stability that engineered oak flooring provides, it tends to behave itself better than solid oak in areas prone to varying levels of humidity, such as cellars, kitchens and bathrooms. It will also handle the drier areas better too but we advise the use of a Thermo-Hygrometer to monitor its surrounding conditions at all times.
